Visiting the New Forest

Once a royal hunting ground for William the Conqueror, The new forest is now a haven for walking, cycling, and exploring picturesque pubs and tearooms. With its mix of natural beauty and rich history, it offers a quintessentially English countryside escape. George’s parents moved out of “the big smoke” to the charming new forest about 10 years ago.

What to Eat & Drink…

The Filly Inn

This is a pub/inn near George’s parents house. It is cozy with good food and drinks! Beautiful outdoor area to enjoy if it’s nice out. Perfect spot to get a Pimm’s cup!

The King’s Head

Classic English pub with all of the traditional English pub foods- fish and chips (with mushy peas of course!), bangers and mash, and meat pies! It is located in Lymington on the high street and is steps away from the marina.

The Pig

beautiful manor house converted to a hotel with a stunning bar and restaurant. It is nestled in the forest in Brockenhurst. The food is just as beautiful as it is delicious. An elevated farm to table experience. There are stunning gardens on site that a lot of their food is made with. Foodies need to go here!

Monkey Brewhouse

a cosy brewpub and restaurant set in a historic 18th-century building. It serves award-winning craft beers brewed on site alongside hearty, seasonal dishes in a warm, relaxed atmosphere.

What to do…

Lymington

very cute coastal town. Get a sausage roll at Cornish Bakery and a pint at the Kings Head per Olivia’s recommendation! Walk through the shops along the cobblestones and down to the marina.

Horseback Riding

Guided rides along forest bridleways for all skill levels, immersive and scenic. There are lots of stables that can take you on horse rides through the New Forest trails!

Tea at Rhinefield House

a very British afternoon! Rhinefield House is a 19th-century mansion tucked away in the heart of the New Forest. it blends Tudor and Gothic architecture with opulent interiors. Today, it’s a luxury hotel offering fine dining, afternoon tea, and a perfect starting point for scenic forest walks.

Highclere Castle

Highclere Castle is the iconic Jacobethan stately home that became world-famous as Downton Abbey. Originally built in 1679 on former medieval episcopal grounds, there are wonderful tours to do here.

Forest Walk

As the Brits call it- take a “yomp” through the forest! There are Over 140 miles of gravel and woodland tracks. You are sure to see ponies, cows, or donkeys!

Isle of Wight

George and I have only been to the restaurant “The Hut” on the Isle of Wight. There are lots of historal attractions on the isle, such as Osborne House which is the former summer home of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.

Brockenhurst

walk around little shops for a coffee or tea. There are lots of quaint antique shops and pubs.

Beaulieu House

take a tour of the manor house, gardens and abbey and then grab lunch in Beaulieu at Monty’s for delicious fish and chips!
